On TÉNÈBRES, Sean R. Ferguson reinterprets the French Baroque Leçons de Ténèbres tradition through a 12-movement work for organ, cello, and electric guitar. Inspired by François Couperin, the album blends sacred musical resonance, contemporary textures, and classical lyricism into a modern chamber experience centered on themes of light, shadow, and spiritual intensity. Conceived in collaboration with choreographer Tom Price, the project seeks to transform historical forms into dynamic contemporary expression. Enhanced by cover art from Anthony Aristide Henderson and developed within Ferguson’s UltraMedia framework with bitsANDwaves, the work merges live music, reactive visuals, and experimental performance into an immersive artistic meditation.

Sean R. Ferguson (b. 1970) is a Brooklyn-based composer and guitarist whose work explores time, perception, and sonic architecture through a fusion of classical and experimental music traditions. An active member of the New York City Classical Guitar Orchestra, Ferguson is recognized for his ensemble performances and innovative guitar arrangements. He studied composition with Lloyd Rodgers and Michael Bayer, and classical guitar with David Grimes. His extensive body of work spans orchestral, chamber, electronic, theatrical, dance, film, and multimedia settings. Through collaborations with interdisciplinary artists, including projects such as Interchange UltraMedia presented by bkONE Productions and bitsANDwaves, Ferguson integrates music, technology, projection, and improvisation to create immersive experiences that reshape audience perception and visual space.
