Curiosa is a deeply personal project conceived by Jorge Jiménez as a musical “cabinet of curiosities,” bringing together works discovered through years of travel, collaboration, and artistic exchange. Spanning music from the Middle Ages to the Baroque and beyond, the album features laments, dances, fugues, songs, and preludes chosen for their emotional resonance and expressive character. Drawing on historical instruments such as the baroque violin and vielle, Jiménez combines scholarly insight with improvisation and spontaneity alongside Joy Smith, Daniel Garay, and the ensemble Tercia Realidad. By linking composers such as Johann Sebastian Bach, John Dowland, Barbara Strozzi, and Gaspar Sanz with traditional melodies, the recording creates an intimate yet expansive musical journey rooted in memory, storytelling, and human connection.

Jorge Jiménez is recognized as one of Europe’s most versatile violinists, conductors, and composers, acclaimed for his innovative approach to historically informed performance. Founder and artistic director of Tercia Realidad, he collaborates with leading ensembles including L’Arpeggiata, I Fagiolini, and The Hanover Band. His acclaimed solo recordings, including Rethinking Bach: Goldberg Variations & The Cello Suites, have been praised for their originality and technical mastery. Through Tercia Realidad, inspired by Cervantes’ concept of “Third Nature,” Jiménez blends improvisation, historical repertoire, and contemporary creativity into immersive performances presented at major international festivals. Joined by Joy Smith and Daniel Garay, he continues to redefine Baroque music through performances that unite scholarship, imagination, and spontaneity.
